A 2004 interview in which Oprah asks the Olsen twins what dress size they are has been shared to TikTok and the “problematic” line of questioning has caused widespread outrage.
At the time the interview took place the twins were only 17 years old and Mary-Kate had been hounded by the press about her weight, with intense media speculation that the former Full House star was suffering from an eating disorder.
Later the same year that the Oprah interview aired, Mary Kate checked into a rehabilitation facility to seek treatment for a food-related health disorder.
The interview with Oprah certainly would not have helped Mary-Kate at the time, with the talk-show host pressing both twins to discuss the rumours.
“I know there’s been a rumour that has recently surfaced that’s really upset you,” Oprah asks the twins in the resurfaced clip.
“Yeah, you know, people are going to write what they’re going to write,” responded Ashley.
The young actress then continued to try to address the awkward question.

She Reportedly Spent Time In Rehab After Developing An Eating Disorder
Shortly after graduating from high school, Mary-Kate Olsen was reportedly admitted to a rehab facility for an eating disorder. She remained quiet about the ordeal at the time, but later she explained in an interview with Elle, Look, I think its important that what anybody goes through and Im not saying that its true or not true you realize its part of growing up. For Mary-Kate, the hardest thing was finding the courage to reach out and ask for help. I think at some point I had to say that I deserve to be happy, she said. Clearly, Mary-Kate did what was right for her, and she got the help she needed.
In late July 2004, she reportedly came home from the facility. As her spokesman told CBS News at the time, She is feeling very well and is looking forward to rejoining her family and friends and preparing for her freshman year at New York University.
