For a brief recap She’s a standard youtuber, make up, fashion, how to’s etc. Recently her behavior began to change, her speech became very quick, her ideas ran in circles, the girl sounds like an android that’s occassionally glitching now, let’s be real. Fans also noted her fearful looks, some extensive bruising, and odd snippits of other people aiding in her videos, as well as a rifle just casually chillin’ in the corner of a room she filmed in.

This speculation got pretty wild, going as far as to claim she had been kidnapped and was being held hostage. There’s also some insinuations of drug use and mental illness. She did and interview with another youtuber claiming those accusations were false.On FB posted with the photo above, she wrote:

The More I Believed She Was Being Abused The More I Got Anxious

It felt like every wall came towards me and I couldnt get out, says Usha Vandermaelen, a 19-year-old student from Belgium, who suffered a panic attack while following the hashtag and watching Marinas videos. I had to pause the videos to keep myself together and not burst out crying. I had to ask my mother to calm me down, it lasted a few hours.

Vandermaelen has been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder, and says she suffers attacks if something huge happens like this or if one of her idols dies. She says that for the two days that #SaveMarinaJoyce trended, she only had three-and-a-half hours sleep.

It made me feel very anxious as I felt like I had to do something to make sure the girl was safe. The more I believed there was a scary figure abusing her, the more I got anxious.

But the problem is, there was no scary figure. There was no kidnapping. No abuse. The fears were all baseless. After numerous calls, the Enfield police department visited Marina in the early hours of 27 July and tweeted at 4:34AM that she was safe. Marina herself also tweeted that she was TOTALLY fine.

But the users of #SaveMarinaJoyce didnt just feel panic and hysteria. By playing detective, those who shared theories and screenshots were allowed to feel another, very different but equally contagious emotion. Pride.

Does Lia Have Schizophrenia

With its onset typically occurring during females’ early 20s, schizophrenia is a complex and multifaceted psychiatric disorder known to give rise to what are categorized as ‘positive’, ‘negative’ and ‘cognitive’ symptoms. Believed to be her 65-year-old producer Steven Wetherbee, the man is seen grabbing and kissing her, before quizzing her about whether she is on Instagram and scolding her, barking:

In 2016, fans became concerned after a series of changes in Joyce videos. She seemed to be troubled, and as such, the hashtag save Marina Joyce was started as an attempt to save her from a supposed kidnapping or medicine influence. Social media detectives go to work and a particular video on Twitter titled ‘Date Outfit Ideas’ was subject of the scrutiny. Here’s the fun part regarding the conspiracy: no one really knows. Marina Joyce has repeatedly claimed to be okay, says she talked to her manager who told her to be careful about her hand gestures, and claims she thought she had been acting naturally in her seemingly odd videos that her fans have been raving about.

And yet fans are still not convinced that she’s okay. They think she’s being forced to lie or make up stories. However, her story about the bruises has been consistent, she seems to be fine without a script, and claimed the person behind the camera for some of her videos would be her mother, which is the most likely conclusion.

Then why aren’t many assured?

There could be a massive superhero complex going on, where those on the Internet convince themselves something is wrong and are set to make it right. There’s very little trust in anyone these days, especially when our government is becoming less and less of a trustworthy character.

There could also truly be something wrong with Marina Joyce. She could potentially be lying about being okay. She could have perhaps convinced the police that she was fine. There are so many what-if’s that it will drive you insane and could keep you up all night with worry.

Witch hunts and panic among communities are nothing new, but what happens when cyberspace intensifies the frenzy?

For weeks, fans had been worrying about Marina Joyce. The 19-year-old beauty-YouTuber didnt seem herself. Her once upbeat and quirky personality had shifted dramatically: her videos were filled with silent stares and shifty off-camera glances. On 8 July, viewers noticed a gun in the background of her latest make-up tutorial. They began talking about how she appeared frightened and distressed.

Exactly two weeks later, Marina posted another video. Commenters were quick to point out the sprawling green bruises covering the back of her arms. They noticed that her eyes were wide and unblinking, and a finger briefly directed her from the side of the frame. Most worryingly of all, 13 seconds into the video, the teenager seemed to whisper the words Help me.

So What Is Happening To Lia Marie Johnson

Based on my background in neuroscience and experience with schizophrenia, I am hesitant to say that she suffers from the disorder it seems more likely to me that Lia has fallen into drug use and is triggering temporary psychotic episodes. Her pupils are enormous in several of her live streams, and her rambling thoughts and creativity more closely mimic someone under the influence of a potent psychedelic than someone in the early stages of schizophrenia.

However, this is only a conjecture mental health disorders present themselves in different ways in different patients. While I am convinced that drugs are, unfortunately, involved in Lia’s downward spiral, we cannot rule out the possibility that she is developing the stereotypic array of schizophrenia symptoms.

It must also be highlighted that Lia’s emotional volatility may stem from unhealed psychological wounds, potentially from some form of childhood trauma. This would explain her psychosis-reminiscent ‘retrogression’ to a childlike state in some her live streams trauma survivors frequently dissociate and take on the voice of someone much younger.

We can only hope that Lia accepts the help that she needs, and that she can find the strength to unlatch herself from the path that she is currently sailing down.

It is very possible that Lia has triggered a latent type of psychosis through her use of stimulants and/or psychedelics. Weed alone is, unfortunately, strongly positively correlated with the onset of schizophrenia and other psychiatric phenomena that involve symptomology like Lia’s.
