When Billy Graham wrote those words in 1965, no one knew how true they would be 50 years later.

At its best, anxiety distracts us from our relationship with God and the truth that He is Lord of heaven and earth . At its worst, anxiety is a crippling disease, taking over our minds and plunging our thoughts into darkness.

Our instructions dont stop there. The chapter goes on to tell believers exactly what we should focus on. And its not fear, terrorism, illness, death or evil.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in mepractice these things, and the God of peace will be with you .

How Can I Reduce Stress

To decrease stress levels, try taking some time for self-care. This might mean:

  • eating breakfast before work
  • going outside at lunchtime to get some fresh air indoors
  • reading aloud from a book that makes you happy instead of watching television until bedtime

Anxiety can be overwhelming and it is easy to get lost in worries. The best way to keep your anxiety levels low, however, is by taking control of your thoughts and remembering Scripture when you start feeling anxious.

Addressing Anxiety Using Typical Methods

Biblical Philosophy of Fear | Worship Hour Sermon

Usually, anxiety is addressed with medication or therapy, or ignored.

Medication- according to WebMD, common meds prescribed for anxiety are antidepressants or benzodiazepines like Xanax. And while they can be effective in the short term, you can build a tolerance for them and need more to get the same benefit. They also come with some pretty hefty side effects.

Therapy- According to Mayo Clinic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the most common form of talk therapy used to address anxiety. CBT works to address symptoms by challenging negative thought patterns. Its meant to be short-term, and can be super beneficial!

Ignoring it- sooo many will just ignore their anxiety and not take any course of treatment. When you do nothing about anxiety, your symptoms are left unchecked, and will likely pop up again and again when life gets tough.

I dont recommend ignoring anxiety And while medications and therapy can be effective, these traditional methods fall short in some ways. Medication only works for as long as you take it. Therapy only works if you apply what you get from the sessions to your life.

What if I told you that addressing your anxiety from another perspective could be JUST what you need? What if I said I knew a way to address anxiety that didnt have side effects, that didnt cost what therapy costs, and that has zero downfalls!

Im betting youre curious, but maybe you have an idea where Im going by the title of this post.

Bible Verses On Worry And Anxiety

Matthew 6:34Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Commentary from the sermon Anxiety by Alistair Begg:

Anxiety is part of the fabric of contemporary life. A fear tends to focus on specifics anxiety is just a kind of general thing. It can come from nowhere at all. Some of us worry about being in crowds, others about being lonely. Some of us are worrying about failing others of us are worrying about the sense of success. Some of us are worrying about Theres so much change, others of us are worrying about Why does everything so routine? the great anxiety underlying all anxiety is the fear of death.

And some of us not paying careful attention to Jesus exhortation to take it a day at a time. find ourselves with great difficulty in living with the present because of the implications of our past or because of our apprehensions about the future.

At the heart of it all, anxiety is rooted in trying to care by myself for that which only God can do. Worry reigns in our lives when we think or act as if something is ultimately up to me rather than up to God. It actually has to do with the desire to control things.

1 Peter 5:7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
