If You Are Scared Of Passing Out From Panic Attacks Then I Have A Few Suggestions For You:
Tensing and raising the shoulders disturbs the blood flow to our brains making us much more prone to dizziness. This is a defense mechanism that we come equipped with to protect our head. In addition to this we have sensitive nerves in our neck area that can be impacted by us tensing the neck muscles.
With a little practising it is possible to keep the shoulders down even when having high levels of anxiety. I talk from experience here, trust me on this!
When breathing slowly thorough your nose it is almost impossible to pass out from a panic attack. It may not seem like this, in the midst of your anxiety, but deep nasal breathing prevents the anxiety to spike up to its fullest strength.
This is what causes normal anxiety to become panic attacks in the first place. When we feel a panic attack coming on, opening our arms and letting it come, will often make the anxiety go away completely
on the other hand if we try to push it away, which is the most common response, THIS is where the anxiety turns into a panic attack.
I know I know, its easier said than done but it is actually very doable with some practice. I explain more on this subject in the video below.
Feeling Faint Isn’t Dangerous
Of course, when people hear that their brain isn’t getting enough blood, they get worried. Rest assured that feeling faint from anxiety isn’t dangerous in the slightest, and can’t cause any long-term health issues.
That said, if you are fainting regularly you should make sure that you see a doctor to rule out medical issues. Also, while fainting is not in itself unsafe, although fainting in dangerous places can put you at risk for hitting your head on sharp objects, and feeling faint while driving can impair driving ability.
Panic Disorder With Agoraphobia
Agoraphobia was traditionally thought to involve a fear of public places and open spaces. However, it is now believed that agoraphobia develops as a complication of panic attacks and panic disorder. Although it can develop at any point, agoraphobia usually appears within a year of your first recurrent panic attacks.
If youre agoraphobic, youre afraid of having a panic attack in a situation where escape would be difficult or embarrassing. You may also be afraid of having a panic attack where you wouldnt be able to get help. Because of these fears, you start avoiding more and more situations.
For example, you may begin to avoid:
- Crowded places such as shopping malls or sports arenas.
- Cars, airplanes, subways, and other forms of travel.
- Social gatherings, restaurants, or other situations where it would be embarrassing to have a panic attack.
- Physical exercise in case it triggers panic.
- Certain food or drinks that could provoke panic, such as alcohol, caffeine, sugar, or specific medications.
- Going anywhere without the company of someone who makes you feel safe. In more severe cases, you might only feel safe at home.

When Might I Have Panic Attacks
Panic attacks happen at different times for everyone. Some people have one panic attack then don’t ever experience another, or you might find that you have them regularly, or several in a short space of time. You might notice that particular places, situations or activities seem to trigger panic attacks. For example, they might happen before a stressful appointment.
Most panic attacks last between 5 to 20 minutes. They can come on very quickly. Your symptoms will usually be at their worst within 10 minutes. You might also experience symptoms of a panic attack over a longer period of time. This could be because you’re having a second panic attack, or you’re experiencing other symptoms of anxiety.

What Is Panic Disorder
If you’re having lots of panic attacks at unpredictable times and there doesn’t seem to be a particular trigger or cause, you might be given a diagnosis of panic disorder. It’s common to experience panic disorder and certain types of phobia together. People who experience panic disorder may have some periods with few or no panic attacks, but have lots at other times.
Panic disorder and high sensitivity
Some research suggests that people who have panic disorder might be very sensitive to sensory experiences , but there’s not enough evidence yet to say for sure.
Also it’s not clear whether having a high level of sensitivity to these sorts of things is something that might cause you to develop panic disorder, or whether it may be an effect of having it.

Another thing you can do , is actually try passing out from your anxiety or panic. In other words, do your best at passing out when you are in a session with your therapist.
Now you might be dubious, but it is actually a technique that many therapists use to show their anxious patients that they have nothing to worry about. This technique is called the Experimental Technique and I was introduced to it through the work of Dr. David Burns, M.D.
The Experimental Technique works because you can conduct the experiment yourself and test the belief that you are passing out. The real lesson here is that no matter how hard you try, you cannot bring yourself to pass out from anxiety or pass out from panic attacks. Again this is obviously something to try while in the presence of your therapist.

Research On Cardiovascular Death And Anxiety
A 2008 study investigated the risk of heart attacks, CHD, and cardiovascular death among people with panic attacks or PD. The study identified the following correlations:
- There was an increased incidence of heart attack among people below 50 years of age who had panic attacks or PD.
- There was an increased incidence of CHD among people of all ages who had panic attacks or PD.
- There was a decreased incidence of cardiovascular-related death among people of all ages who had panic attacks or PD.
The research did not find that panic attacks cause heart attacks and heart disease. It also did not prove that panic attacks protect a person from cardiovascular-related death the study only established a correlation between these factors.

What Happens In Your Brain
Scientists are still studying how panic attacks affect the brain. Itâs possible that the parts of the brain that are tied to fear become more active during an episode. One recent study found that people with panic disorder had lots of activity in a part of their brains tied to the âfight or flightâ response.
Other studies have found possible links between panic disorder and the chemicals in your brain. The condition may also be linked to an imbalance in serotonin levels, which can affect your moods.

What Is A Psychogenic Blackout
Psychogenic blackout is a medical term for a blackout that can look like reflex syncope or an epileptic seizure but is not related to either. During a psychogenic blackout, people lose some control of their body.
Attacks might involve:
- Feeling out of touch with your surroundings
- Inability to remember the attack

What Should I Do If Someone Faints
If someone loses consciousness:
- Make sure the persons airway is clear.
- Check that the person is breathing.
- Check that the heart is beating.
When someone faints and then wakes up:
- Encourage them to sit down or lie down for 10 to 15 minutes .
- Check for any injuries that might need medical attention .
- Suggest that they sit forward and lower their head below their shoulders and knees.

Medication For Panic Attacks And Panic Disorder
Medication can be used to temporarily control or reduce some of the symptoms of panic disorder. However, it doesnt treat or resolve the problem. Medication can be useful in severe cases, but it should not be the only treatment pursued. Medication is most effective when combined with other treatments, such as therapy and lifestyle changes, that address the underlying causes of panic disorder.
Medications used may include:
Antidepressants. It takes several weeks before antidepressants begin to work, so you have to take them continuously, not just during a panic attack.
Benzodiazepines. These are anti-anxiety drugs that act very quickly . Taking them during a panic attack provides rapid relief of symptoms. However, benzodiazepines are highly addictive and have serious withdrawal symptoms, so they should be used with caution.
What Causes Feeling Faint
When you suffer from anxiety, feeling faint is almost exclusively caused by hyperventilation. Also known as “over-breathing,” hyperventilation occurs when you unintentionally breathe out too much carbon dioxide as a result of unhelpful breathing habits.
Interestingly, hyperventilation feels like the exact opposite – when you’re hyperventilating, it often feels as though you’re not getting enough oxygen. So those that are hyperventilating have a tendency to try to take even deeper breaths – breathing in more oxygen to compensate.
This makes it worse. The abundance of oxygen and the depletion of CO2 causes your blood vessels to constrict, which reduces blood flow to the brain. When your brain doesn’t feel like it’s getting enough blood to your brain, it responds by dropping you to the floor, because the easiest way to make sure blood flow reaches your brain is when you’re on the the ground.
