  • Drink Water.Drinking water reduces a tight feeling in the throat by providing you with a sensation of something moving down your throat, helping to ensure that your throat is not closed off. Hydration is also known to help reduce the feeling of a lump in the throat.
  • Jogging. Jogging during a panic attack may seem like a bad idea if you are having trouble breathing, but this is a good way to help your body release stress. Jogging helps to reduce chemicals in the body that relax the muscles, including those in the throat, to help stave off these symptoms.
  • Herbal Solutions. Kava, passionflower or valerian herbs can help to reduce anxiety or stress. Perform your own research on these herbs to see if you believe they could be helpful.

**throat Pressure / Tightness With Gerd/esophagitis** Anyone Else Out There

Hi Everyone!

I’ve had a really frustrating last few months and wanted to share my story with hopes that someone else could relate.

A few months ago, I started experiencing this weird throat pressure and fullness. It almost feels like someone is pressing on my throat. Also, I have excessive mucus on the back of my throat, a cough, and itchy throat at times too. This is pretty much CONSTANT! At times I also feel like my throat is constricting from the inside It it the most AWFUL feeling I’ve ever experienced.

I went to see a gastro doc, and he did and Upper Endoscopy which showed Mild Reactive Esophagitis and Mild Gastritis. *Of note, I also have a sore and tender stomach, have had this for months too!

I was taking some acid reducers before the throat issue started, and I’m now on Protonix.

I pretty much feel this 24/7 and it’s so hard, because I’m a nursing student, and I work Part-time – – – I’m constantly on the go, and constantly in discomfort! It is really draining. I am so sick of my throat bothering me. I do have “better” days, and then some days are absolutely awful.

Can an inflammed throat cause this much discomfort? I know I have acid reflux, although I don’t think it’s that severe. I feel like although I was diagnosed with Mild Esophagitis, that maybe there is something else going on too? I am soooooooooooooooo frustrated.

How to Get Rid of Tight Feeling in Throat

Your doctor will feel your neck and may do blood tests to check your thyroid hormone levels. Other tests used to diagnose an enlarged thyroid gland include an ultrasound and a thyroid scan.

If you have heartburn, the following can help prevent throat tightness and other symptoms:

  • avoid overeating
  • avoid foods that trigger it
  • take antacids or acid-blocking drugs

Causes Of Anxiety Cough

Besides the tension of your muscles mentioned above, there are other reasons for your anxiety cough.

  • Suppression of your immune system. At first glance, this wouldnt seem to be a reason for your persistent cough. Heres the way it works: Anxiety is just another stressor to your body. And your body responds like it does to all stress. Your body diverts energy from non-essential systems to those that help you fight or flee from stress. Your immune system in this case is one of those non-essentials. Inhibiting your immune system allows bacteria and viruses to get a start in your body. Both of them cause coughs. What You Can Do

  • Learn to deep breathe. This is essentially a relaxation exercise. Breathe in slowly through your nose for about five seconds. Hold your breath for two seconds. Breathe out through your mouth for at least seven seconds. Do this multiple times every day.
  • Learn to think differently. Rather than allowing your thoughts to stay on anxious things, list several positive things you can think about. When you feel anxious, pull out the list and think about one of the positive things.

Globus pharyngeus is a natural phenomenon. Once people have an understanding of the condition, the symptoms will often gradually better of their own accord. When it does recur, people know what is going on, so don’t go into a vicious cycle, so many, if not most, people dont require any treatment at all.
